Pressure Spike
Common Failure: Pressure Spikes
How do I know that my gauge is experiencing pressure spikes?
A bent, broken, or knicked pointer
What causes pressure spikes in my gauge?
A pressure spike can be caused by several things. When looking at your system, consider the following:
- Is there a pump going on or off?
- Is there a valve being open or closed causing a spike or sudden drop in the system pressure?
Possible Risks
- An abrupt increase/decrease in pressure leading to a Bourdon tube rupture and gauge failure
- System media releases into the environment causing potential injury and lost system media
Solution
Evaluate system design to eliminate unpredicted spikes. Resize gauge to select one with larger pressure range to accommodate expected spikes in pressure.
